Hillsboro Police partners with HEY! Hillsboro for prescription drug turn-in event | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
On April 30, the Hillsboro Police Department in collaboration with Hillsboro Empowers Youth! (HEY!) and with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will hold the third annual Prescription Drug Take-Back Day at the west precinct, 250 SE 10th Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This event helps keep drugs out of the hands of kids and out of landfills and water systems by offering a responsible and safe way to dispose of prescription medication.
The event, which is free and anonymous, is intended to prevent pill abuse and theft by allowing people to turn over potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications.
"Parents need to be aware that prescription drug abuse is increasing in our youth and they are easily getting it from home," said Michelle Rodriguez, Director of HEY!
The site will collect medications from the family members as well as four legged members of the household, like unused veterinary medication.
Not accepted: illicit substances, needles (including Epi-Pens), mercury thermometers, intravenous solutions, lotions or creams or medical waste.
