Public invited to City of Hillsboro's Health & Education District Showcase on Aug. 31 | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
HILLSBORO, Ore. -- The public is invited to join the City of Hillsboro and local partner organizations at 4 p.m. Aug. 31 to celebrate the newest additions to Hillsboro's thriving Health & Education District (HED).
The HED Showcase will take place in parking lot "L" at the corner of SE 8th Avenue and SE Washington Street in downtown Hillsboro.
The Showcase will feature the opening of the City's new Intermodal Transit Facility (ITF) and the opening of Pacific University's newest Health Professions Campus building, HPC2.
The five-story ITF is a joint-use parking structure that will be shared by the City and its community partners Tuality Healthcare, Pacific University, Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center and Portland Community College (PCC). PCC will relocate its Hillsboro Center to the ground floor of the ITF, where it will continue to offer a variety of university transfer courses, professional and technical studies and other offerings.
Conveniently located near Tri-Met's blue MAX line, the ITF will also feature bicycle racks, lockers, showers and restrooms for commuters.
Pacific's second building, HPC2, will meet the demands for additional space resulting from the rapid growth of the College of Health Professions. The College recently opened an Interprofessional Diabetes Clinic, is expanding its Psychology Clinic and will begin a Certificate of Gerontology program this fall.
In addition to the ITF and Pacific's College of Health Professions, the Showcase will also highlight the latest developments from Virginia Garcia and PCC.
The event kicks off with a brief program at 4 p.m. and continues with public tours at 4:45 p.m. of HPC2 and the Virginia Garcia Clinic located inside Pacific's Creighton Hall, the first HPC building. Following the program and tours, all are encouraged to attend Hillsboro's Tuesday Marketplace, where patrons can purchase fresh produce, local food fare and beer and wine while enjoying live music. Pacific, Tuality and Virginia Garcia will have information booths at the Marketplace.
The Hillsboro City Council recently approved the Health & Education District as an official City district. The HED launched in 2006 as a partnership between the City, Pacific, Tuality and Virginia Garcia.
